Nugget of Truth
11-02-09
I have been married to the most amazing woman for over 10 years now. However, as wonderful as she is...Megan is sometimes just plain WRONG! In the early part of our marriage, I would many times point these instances out to her...needless to say this didn't go over very well - most of the time! The reason I share this with you, is to point out this nugget of truth: PICK YOUR BATTLES WISELY! (Can I get an AMEN from all the married men) Having an argument over the best type of pasta sauce (even though everyone knows it's RAGU) doesn't really matter when laid against the backdrop of having a successful marriage and rasing God honoring children.
Now to the heart of the issue for me: it's one thing to talk about marriage, but what happens when this type of thinking takes hold in a church? What happens when my wants, my needs, my likes or dislikes...lead to arguments, frustration or even bitterness in my heart and with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ! What are the issues that many times divde us...worship preference, Bible translation used in preaching, children's programming and church dress code - (just to name a few) Meanwhile - the people all around us are going to HELL!
I agree that we should be striving for excellence in everything we do! However I believe even more strongly that we should PICK OUR BATTLES WISELY! Why? Because while important, many of the things that we argue about - have very little to do with a person's SALVATION! I believe that Satan rejoices, because he has blinded us from our mission. Jesus made it very clear when He said my mission is to SEEK and to SAVE those who are LOST!
Just a thought, but what BATTLES are you choosing to fight? Is it a battle against like minded believers who love Jesus and want to serve Him (as much as you do). Or is it a BATTLE against the gates of HELL...saving our friends, neighbors and loved ones from an eternity seperate from Jesus! Why is it important to choose our battles wisely? Because ETERNITY hangs in the balance! Always remember that our BATTLE is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil in this dark and dangerous world!
Until Next Week,
Chris
